C. Hoare & Co. is the United Kingdom’s oldest privately owned bank

At the core of our business are the values of honesty and care, which have been passed on through the continued direct ownership of the Hoare family since the bank was founded by Richard Hoare in 1672 at the sign of the Golden Bottle on London's Cheapside, before moving to Fleet Street.

Founded in 1672 by Sir Richard Hoare, C. Hoare & Co. is still owned and led by 10th and 11th generation members of the Hoare family.
We treat others as we like to be treated. We believe this gives us a set of likeminded customers with whom we are proud to have a relationship .
Alexander Hoare publishes a Summer and Winter letter to our customers in which he shares his thoughts on the progress of the bank.
The partners of C. Hoare & Co. continue to uphold the philanthropic traditions of the Hoare family, as well as encouraging customers to give effectively.
C. Hoare & Co. is the sole survivor of more than 750 private deposit banks which were established in the 17th and 18th centuries in England and Wales.
