Last week Brigadier Tom Ogilvie-Graham, CEO of the St John Eye Hospital Group in Jerusalem, came to the bank to talk to 40 customers about Humanitarian Diplomacy in Action in Palestine. The St John Hospital was established for charitable works in Jerusalem in 1882 and is the only provider of expert eye care in the west bank, Gaza and East Jerusalem. Last year the Hospital treated over 123,000 patients regardless of their race, religion or ability to pay. 40,000 of these were children.
We were delighted that Tom could join us, he is highly knowledgeable and very well reputed. He is responsible for all the Group’s activities and management as well as the fund-raising office. As a Commander of the Order of St John as well as Chief Executive of the Hospital, he also safeguards the reputation of the Hospital (established as the first eye hospital in the Middle East at the bequest of Queen Victoria). The event was well received by staff and customers alike, described by some as ‘fascinating’.
