Napoleonic war muskets, c.1800

Made by Henry Nock and used by the bank's staff detachment of the Light Horse Volunteers Corps.  Each has a golden bottle engraved on the stock.

The bank was a keen supporter of the volunteer movement, subscribing 8 guineas per annum to the cause.  Henry Hoare, the senior partner, would set off from his Mitcham home at 4.30am each morning in order to watch the Fleet Street Corps drill before the day's work began.
